Ladies Golf Irons
Selecting
ladies golf irons for your golf bag can be a very complex decision.
With so many different options on the market, you may be left feeling
confused as to which ones are right for you.
Just
like golf balls, putters and
drivers, ladies golf irons are designed
for the feminine touch. More specifically, they are made shorter,
lighter (with more flex) and with a slower swing speed in mind. At
first glance, you might think these qualities will hurt your chances
for stellar golfing, but its quite the contrary.
The
fact that ladies irons are lighter and designed for a slower swing
speed will actually (or hopefully!) lower your golf score.
Okay,
we know that ladies clubs are different from men's. But what gets more
confusing is the techie stuff behind the way the various ladies irons
are made. For example, there are ladies golf irons designed for those
of you who want to improve your game (isn't that most of us?). But
certain irons are better suited for the more experienced, or lower
handicap players (my hat is off to you gals).
Shafts
If
you are new to the game, or an average player, I would definitely
suggest a graphite shaft over a steel shaft. Graphite is lighter and
will give you greater ease and speed when swinging.
I'm
a lightweight so swinging a steel shaft club would be like me swinging
a sledgehammer. Okay, maybe not that dramatic, but pretty
close. I prefer lightweight - and the girlier the better!
Club head
If
you're a
beginner or having challenges hitting the ball straight,
choose irons with maximum forgiveness. Yes, even ladies golf
irons can be forgiving, and thank goodness for that. A larger
club head with perimeter weighting (basically meaning that the "sweet
spot" for hitting the ball correctly is a larger space), is going to
help you.
The choices for ladies irons go even
further, including blade style club heads, cavity backed, forged blade,
etc. I'm not super technical by nature, so I won't attempt to go there,
but there are some great sites that dive deeper into the mechanics of

Some
good brands that make great irons for beginners to mid-range golfers

As
always, the best thing to do is talk to a golf pro, or take a lesson
and see what she would suggest after watching you swing.
